Dr. Menghis Bairu, CEO, Co-Founder and President of Bio Usawa (BUI), together with Dr. Miriam Mutebi, internationally recognized surgical oncologist and President of AORTIC, are thrilled to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a sustainable healthcare ecosystem for patients with cancer.
The partnership comes at a time when Africa’s population of 1.5 billion people remains largely underserved in terms of access to quality cancer care, skilled workforce, and effective therapies that are standard-of-care in higher income countries.
Through the newly formed collaboration, BUI and AORTIC will work together to change this equation by focusing on three key areas:
1. Building a translational research ecosystem focused on Women’s Health;
2. Capacity building through education and training, turning insights into tangible solutions in areas such as clinical research, regulatory strategy and pharmacovigilance;
3. Establishing a micro-grants program to support researchers at early stages in their careers.
The collaboration underscores a shared vision of delivering significantly better outcomes for oncology patients across Africa, and building capacity to strengthen healthcare resilience across the Continent.
