Bio Usawa’s CEO Reflects on World Local Production Forum (WLPF) in Abu Dhabi

April 07, 2025 Kigali, Rwanda and San Francisco, USA

We’re proud to share highlights from the World Local Production Forum (WLPF), where our CEO, Dr. Menghis Bairu, represented Bio Usawa on the global stage.

One of the event’s most meaningful moments was Dr. Bairu’s exchange with H.E. Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director General and CEO of Africa CDC. He shared Bio Usawa’s mission to manufacture quality, affordable monoclonal antibodies, in Africa, for Africa and beyond, and expressed his appreciation for Dr. Kaseya’s powerful vision for a resilient, health-secure Africa.

An example of Africa CDC’s far-reaching vision under Dr. Kaseya’s leadership is the proposed Pool Procurement Plan, which would benefit existing and new African manufacturers, including Bio Usawa. Pool procurement increases efficiencies and makes financing for pooled procurement sustainable, predictable and timely, through mobilizing dedicated resources and associated capitalization funds to stabilize initial regional adoption.

As we continue our work to pioneer African-led biotechnology manufacturing, moments like these remind us of the strength of collaboration and shared purpose.
